Star Wars Episode III - How Will the Story Middle?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:44 pm

Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith, is due out May 19, 2005. In the meantime, all we can do is guess how Lucas might choose to close up the loop of storyline connecting the prequels to the original Trilogy. What follows is a series of speculations on what the story might include, so if you don’t want any exposure to such thing, it would be prudent for you to find something else to read.

Undoubtedly the most powerful character transformation in this movie will be Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side. He has already taken the first steps in Episode II, his impatience and arrogance playing primary roles in this foreshadowing. Almost certainly Anakin and Obi-Wan will have to confront each other, likely resulting in a fight of some kind. A lightsaber battle between these two would be interesting to see, as of course both now the other’s style and technique. Each would have another advantage, as well: Anakin can fully use the power of the Dark Side to aid him, if he’s that far along yet; and Obi-Wan has more experience and seems somewhat capable of protecting himself from such powers, ala blocking Dooku’s lightning attack. Since we know both must survive the encounter to be in Episode IV, it would probably then end either by stalemate, distraction accompanied by one fleeing, or apparent death, such as falling off of a cliff. Also, we must realize that Vader, as seen in Episode IV, is in his life-support armor, so it is possible this fight is how he sustains those injuries.

Another hugely important facet of the story is the downfall of the Jedi. We have already seen their numbers drop in Episode II during the Geonosis battle. If the Clone Wars are still in full swing during Episode III, more will be falling in this movie, as well. Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi obviously survive, so they must somehow escape the conflict in order to set themselves up for the Trilogy. Since Mace Windu is not mentioned in Episodes IV-VI, it can be assumed that he will die or his fate will be sealed in Revenge, as it would be incredibly cheap of Lucas to just say “Oh, well, he died somewhere in the gap, but I’m not going to tell you how.” Mace is one heck of a fighter, so either his death will be spectacularly planned, or else he will have to sacrifice himself to save others (or just one other).

And, of course, if Lucas must tie up the loose ends to set up for the original Trilogy, then Luke and Leia will have to be addressed. It has been established that they are born around the time Episode III is supposed to be set, so they will likely factor in as an important element. It will be interesting to see what Yoda and Obi-Wan think of these two at this early point in time. Will they realize that they have such a vital role to play in the future? Just how much were they able to predict about their importance?

Then there is Palpatine. Though I take it as read that Palpatine and Darth Sidious are one and the same (and seem to recall canon support for this, beside the fact that it just seems so totally obvious), I have also heard the possibility voiced that they are different people. It doesn’t seem at all likely to me, but maybe Lucas has some little strings he can pull to show up the full picture, like some complex origami fold which requires one last simple tug to unfurl a vast tangle of deceptive brilliance. I’m not holding my breath.

Taking the line of thought used for Mace Windu, as Padme is not mentioned in the Trilogy, she either dies or goes into hiding and becomes totally unimportant to the rest of the series; the latter seems highly unlikely. Padme’s last major contribution to the story is the delivery of Luke and Leia into the Galaxy, but once that bit of established “history” is out of the way, anything could happen. Since Vader is unaware of the locations or perhaps even existence of his children, Anakin probably won’t know about the birth or perhaps even the conception. It is likely that Padme leaves him shortly thereafter, once he has revealed that his inner darkness isn’t something she can help him defeat.

There are a few other bits which don’t necessarily have to be addressed in this story. One is the change from clone troopers to stormtroopers; since stormtroopers seem to be normal citizens of the Empire, it shouldn’t be the same group of people. Somewhere along the way Palpatine must make this change, probably as the supply of clone troopers dwindle, but there is no reason Lucas would have to put it in Revenge of the Sith. Also, of course, the ships, vehicles, and armor shown in Attack of the Clones are quite similar to those used by the Empire in later years, the Imperial designs evolved from those of the Clone Wars. Since this would take some time to change, it will probably not be shown in Revenge.

To summarize: Anakin and Obi-Wan fight, and Anakin probably gets hurt; more Jedi die, possibly at the hands of Anakin later in the movie; Obi-Wan and Yoda survive and set up Luke and Leia for their roles in the Trilogy; Palpatine may choose this time to reveal his inner darkness to the Galaxy, now that it’s too late for them to do anything about it; and Mace Windu and Padme probably die. Most likely the Clone Wars are still raging, so we can count on them to infuse the movie with action, and since the Empire is on the rise, we can assume that the movie will have a darkening theme, though with the light at the end of the distant tunnel in the form of the Skywalker twins. It’ll be interesting to see how Lucas manages to pack all of this into one movie. But will the movie satisfy the gads of millions of fans? Only time, and the power of the Force, will tell.

So You’d Like to. . .Learn More About Living on a Farm

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:04 am

Forty years ago when I was a little girl growing up on our dairy farm in west central Wisconsin, I thought everyone lived on a farm. Then again, many of my kindergarten classmates lived on farms, too, so maybe I wasn’t completely off base.

Later on, however, after I had graduated from high school and started traveling around the United States, I was hard-pressed to meet anyone who had ever been on a dairy farm, much less lived on one. People would ask me where I was from and when I told them Wisconsin, they’d say, “I suppose you lived on a dairy farm.”

After a while, it became clear to me that for people in other states, ‘Wisconsin’ and ‘dairy farm’ were synonymous. I would explain that not everyone in Wisconsin lives on a dairy farm, and then I would find myself answering questions about what it was like growing up on a farm.

Today, most of the small family dairy farms like the one where I grew up are gone. My parents milked 20 cows, but farmers can no longer make a living that way. Milk prices have essentially stayed the same since the 1970s, and many small farmers decided to sell their dairy herds when their business expenses ended up exceeding their gross farm income year after year.

Even though most of the small family farms have disappeared, the evidence that they once existed remainsin the empty dairy barns scattered around the countrysidein the pastures that have been turned into residential subdivisionsin the creameries that have been abandoned or converted into other uses.

And in my stories about growing up on a Wisconsin dairy farm.

My books “Christmas in Dairyland (True Stories from a Wisconsin Farm)” (July 2003) and “Give Me a Home Where the Dairy Cows Roam” (October 2004) each contain 20 true stories about growing up on a family farm 40 years ago. Christmas in Dairyland includes a number of family recipes (lefse; sugar cookies; bon-bons; Christmas bread; fattigman; and several others). Both books are appropriate for readers of all ages.

Christmas in Dairyland — Celebrate Christmas during a simpler time 40 years ago when happiness was baking cookies, decorating the Christmas tree, or even just getting out of wearing snow boots to school.

Give Me a Home Where the Dairy Cows Roam — Stories set on a small family dairy farm in Wisconsin 40 years ago at a time when small family farms still dotted the countryside and summertime meant learning to drive the tractor, making ice cream, and riding a pony to the hayfield.

Here are what some of my readers are saying about the books:

I have to tell you I feel a little sad. Just read the LAST page of “Give me a home where the dairy cows roam.” I enjoyed every word. . .I wish your book went on forever . . .now, bring on “Cream of the Crop!” I’ll be waiting! Anita(Wisconsin)

I really have enjoyed both of your books so much! As I mentioned before, this is my life between the covers of your book and it really takes me back to the good life we had growing up. Your father sounds like he was a very compassionate and caring individual, as my father was and I think most small-time farmers were: always putting their family and cows first. I also loved all your haying stories, as I could also relate to all of your events. Well done and I look forward to your next book! Carol (Massachusetts)

I have read both of your books (”Christmas in Dairyland” and “Give Me a Home Where the Dairy Cows Roam”)and thoroughly enjoyed all the stories! I think my favorite is the one when you FINALLY got your horse, Dusty. What a wonderful writer you are, as I feel like I’m right there with you on all of your adventures! My mother-in-law loved the books, also. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more books! Danielle (Indiana)

I’m in the middle of reading “Give Me a Home Where the Dairy Cows Roam.” I also enjoyed reading “Christmas in Dairyland” You know how to make the reader feel like we are right there. When is your next book coming out? Carol (Nebraska)

The Essentials of Mesothelioma: Rare Cancer

Filed under: Political Activities, The Medical Way, World Of Health — admin @ 4:23 am

Cancer of the mesothelium is a uncommon cancer of the tissues that line the person’s internal organs. Nearly 2,000 brand new instances are detected each year in the whole United States. From these, aroundthree fourths of occurrences involve the sac that protects the lungs, called the pleura. This is known as pleural mesothelioma. In around 10 to twenty percent of instances, malignant mesothelioma may involve the tissue that encloses visceral organs, referred to as the peritoneal membrane, resulting in what is then referred to as peritoneal mesothelioma.

Being introduced to asbestos is positively the main cause for this rare sickness. Following exposure to asbestos, the time period to development of the mesothelioma disease may be twenty to forty years. Due to occupation exposure, cancer of the mesothelium is around 3 times more regular in men, than in women. Because the mass of cases goes up with your age, there are almost 10 times more instances in the men over age 64 than in the men in their thirties.

Getting Cancer of the mesothelium is a weighty sickness, which, at the current moment, has a incredibly poor rate of lasting survival. On the other hand, if it is pinpointed early, treatments are then obtainable that will significantly extend the patient’s life. Cutting edge therapies continue to be and are being developed through clinical trials.

Why Learn Languages?

Filed under: Language Resources — admin @ 11:35 pm

Why learn languages? Why would anyone want to learn someone else’s language? Obviously, there are a lot of reasons, and if the question is on your mind, then you probably have a desire or need to learn a language yourself. The answer is often different for people. Put 10 random people together who are learning another language and you will probably have 7 or 8 different reasons and 5 or 6 different languages. Every answer is valid. Every reason is the right reason for that person and every language is the right language. There is no wrong answer to the question ‘why learn a language?’ and there is no wrong language to learn.

The ability to learn another language is not limited by economic background, ethnic background, nationality, gender, race, religion, age or the grades you got (or are getting) in school. While everyone is different, and we all have differing abilities and strengths, we all have language ability to some degree. Maybe we all aren’t going to become great orators or novelists in another language, but we all have the ability to learn, and communicate in other languages.

There is no danger of learning ‘too much.’ You can’t fill up your head with too much language, and there’s no danger of you losing knowledge of the languages you already know. In fact, learning a foreign language (or more than one) improves memory, math skills, analytical skills, problem solving and increases critical thinking and creativity. Furthermore and most remarkably, learning a foreign language actually improves our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English.

Languages don’t just pop up out of nowhere, they evolve from other languages and change over time. Many of the most widely spoken languages are related and share some vocabulary, and even if they aren’t, languages are always borrowing words from each other. English is full of words from many other
languages. Learning another language not only gives you new knowledge, but expands upon your existing knowledge of English and gives you a whole new way of understanding it. Furthermore, you begin to learn how to learn languages, making it easier to learn other languages and understand how language and
communication works in general. Other languages are not just a word for word translation of English, but an interpretation of events and opinions from a different point of view.

So, why learn languages? Ok, so there are some benefits. Can learning a language benefit everyone? In a word - Yes. I’m sure if you look around and evaluate your life you will see lots of opportunities to use different languages. We are all surrounded by people who use other languages, or opportunities we could
benefit from by using other languages. The possibilities are there if you look for them.

You may have relatives living in Japan, or you want to visit China. Perhaps you have a life-long desire to see Italy or you are planning a vacation in Argentina, or retirement in Costa Rica. All are valid reasons for learning a language. Learning for travel is one of the most common reasons to learn a language. There are more opportunities to travel today than there have ever been before, and they are likely to increase in the 21st century Global Village.

Many people learn a language to connect with their roots. You may still have relatives living in the ‘old country,’ or you may just want to define yourself a little bit. Learning the language of our ancestors can help bring us into better contact with ourselves and open up a whole new understanding of ourselves and how we got to be who and where we are.

Do you have a new addition to the family by marriage? Learning even a little of your new family members language can bring both families closer together. Or maybe you’re looking for love yourself. Think of the possibilities when you learn another language. The increase in possible social contacts is tremendous when you add a whole new way to communicate. That goes for love, friendship, travel or business.

Learning a language for business is a very common reason. The business opportunities that have arisen in the last few decades have made it almost imperative for a businessperson to have language skills. English may be spoken by many people and it is the language of the internet, but in order to really cultivate
business relationships and get ahead in the business world, language skills are a must. There are a wide variety of industries in which having language ability is a great advantage. It broadens our job skills and career options.

The reasons for students to learn languages are many, and not just because you need it to graduate or get a certain degree. Obviously, improving English skills and overall communication skills are both valuable to students. Improvement of memory, creativity, problem solving ability and analytical skills also are of significant importance to a student. Studies show that bilinguals routinely outperform monolinguals in all areas of testing. Scores for SATs and other tests are shown to be higher for foreign language students, and the longer the foreign language study the higher the average test scores. Having second language skills also makes a student more competitive in the job market.

Learning a language isn’t just learning some new grammar concepts, vocabulary and different sounds. It gives insights into other cultures. It creates a more positive attitude toward people who are culturally different and gives us a better understanding of what it’s like to be an immigrant. Accomplishing this life skill will give you increased prestige in your own culture and a markedly increased status in other cultures. It’s a required skill to become a World Citizen. Ultimately, learning other languages gives us a better
understanding of our own language and our own culture, and a new viewpoint to look at the world in which we live and define our place in it.

One of my favorite quotes about language by Ambrose Bierce :

Belladonna, n.: In Italian a beautiful lady; in English a deadly poison. A striking example of the essential identity of the two tongues.

It’s meant to be funny and it reminds us that languages really are different, but it makes me laugh every time I read it. This, to me, also reminds me why I like to learn languages. It’s fun! The inner workings of each language are full of little nuggets that are downright enjoyable to learn. So, why learn languages? Lots of the reasons above pertain to me, but my answer is much simpler - because I enjoy it.

Graduation Diplomas For All

Graduation Tassels

Graduation tassels are the strips of cords that can be seen hanging from the top of a mortarboard, commonly known as a graduation cap. These tassels may also be known as liripipes, which refer to a historical part of clothing that meant a long tail of clothing. In this case, it is the ‘tail’ that is found on a cap. In many countries, it is a graduation custom for the side in which the graduation tassels
are hanging to be considered. There may be instances where it may remain on one side during the course of the ceremony and there are times when the side has to change.

The level of study requires the tassels to be worn on the right for students who have undergraduate degrees and when these students become graduates, the tassels are switched from right to left. During this ceremony, the graduation tassels are switched simultaneously from one side to the other. The colors of the tassels vary depending on the level of study and the institution’s choice of colors. High school students have tassels which are commonly the schools main color or the three major colors of the school put together. The colors should not exceed three as they will be a bit cumbersome.

Rome Total War : Battle Strategy Guide

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:14 am

A. Formations

It’s pretty much common sense to come up with a good formation for
your army but the basic idea in most situations is to have your infantry
in front, ranged units behind, cavalry protecting the flanks and your general right behind the infantry. Having the general next to your infantry boosts their morale. If you have larger numbers than the enemy, it’s usually a good idea to spread your formation so you can surround the enemy.

B. Flanks and Rear

The flanks and rear of any army are its most vulnerable points.
By placing cavalry on the side you can help protect your flanks. When facing an enemy, always try to attack its flanks or rear with your army, especially your cavalry. A cavalry charge to the rear can devastate any unit and lower its morale. When facing an army unit such as Greek hoplite phalanx, you must use the slow speed of the enemy to your advantage to flank the opponent. The Phalanx is particularly vulnerable anywhere except the front. One tactic that seems to work is to slowly flank the enemy is to form your troops in a slight half circle so you can slowly surround your enemy. Never let your infantry become isolated, try to keep them in formation in a line so they dont feel like they are being surrounded.

C. Morale

The morale of your troops is the most important aspect of a battle.
If your troops are surrounded they will lose morale and try to escape in a
rout. Try to prevent this and use this to your advantage by surrounding troops whenever possible. Showering arrows on the enemy army lowers its morale Also, launching a surprise attack on an unprotected side has the same effect. Having enemy generals near your troops lowers their morale slightly, this is also true of your general and enemy troops. Keep in mind that more experienced troops have higher morale. New troops will most likely rout if
your general flees.

All units on the battlefield know who is winning the battle by
observing their surroundings. If they see any unit or a general fleeing,
they are more likely to flee. Use this to your advantage; if you have
a unit surrounded and they are routing, let them flee rather than let
them fight their hardest to get out of their situation. Once other enemy
units have seen them, mow them down with your cavalry to show the other
army who is the boss.

D. Unit strengths

Each of the different unit types is vulnerable to another type.
Cavalry is vulnerable to frontal spear attacks. Light Infantry is
vulnerable to cavalry and Heavy infantry is also vulnerable to side
attacks from cavalry but is effective in hand to hand combat.
Artillery is good offensively against almost any unit but is extremely
weak defensively and dies quickly after a head on attack.

Elephants are a great unit against infantry and lower the morale
of enemy troops. They can be supressed by a large number of ranged units
and scare tactics such as incendiary pigs. Your Elephants may also turn
and attack your own troops in which case you have the option of using
the special ability where your rider executes them.

Archers are very effective against light troops and mounted
archers are a good way to harass enemy troops. Always keep archers
them away from the infantry and cavalry. Put them behind your infantry
when the enemy is close and protect them with your cavalrywhen necessary.
If you have the opportunity to flank the enemy using archers, make sure
you take off skirmish mode and attack, you will catch the enemy
off guard. When the enemy is far away put the archers in the front to
shoot arrows as the enemy approaches then bring them behind.

E. Fatigue

Your units will slowly or quickly get fatigued based on their actions.
Use this to your advantage by forcing attacking armies to march to you and by
running only when necessary.

F. Terrain

Use the terrain to your advantage. When fighting near or in a forest,
lure the enemy and launch surprise attacks. Place one or two units out in the
open while you hide the rest of your army in the forests. However, remember that
archers perform poorly near trees. Also, remember that generals are not hidden
in forests. When you are fighting on a map with a slope, try to control the
higher ground and avoid an uphill battle. Units move very slowly when marching
uphill and attack much less effectively; the opposite is true downhill
If you have the option to wait out the battle and the weather doesn’t suit
your army, wait until the weather changes. Some units are better suited to
certain weather condtions than others. Read unit descriptions to find out
more details about each units ideal figting conditions.
Some terrain such as mountains is impassible to your armies. Try to
find an alternate route. Certain choke points such as bridges are important
strategic locations. Defending a bridge is much easier than defending on an
open plain. You can also hide your whole army on the campaign map in a
wooded area to launch surprise attacks on an enemy army.

G. After they flee

When the enemy starts to flee, continue the battle rather than end it
so you can use your cavalry and attack dogs to run over the fleeing enemies.
You can gain more experience for your units this way. Using your general’s
cavalry to run over routing units is a quick way to gain experience and
skills for the general.

H. Attacking with multiple armies

Whenever possible, try to attack with multiple armies by surrounding
the terrain around the enemy with your forces. When one of your armies is
adjacent, the AI is in control of the army and helps in the fight. Any
type of reinforcement usually helps win the battle but be wary of the AI
poorly managing your valuable Generals and armies.

Topsy Turvy Land is a pure delight! The short rhyming sentences hold the attention of both young and old. The illustrations are vibrant and make the story come to life. And it’s entertaining as children are encouraged to locate the hidden heart on every page.

The Insolvancy Test

Filed under: Credit + Ratings, Financing, Support — admin @ 6:14 am

Hoards of individuals might have to pick between filing for bankruptcy or allowing their home loan lender to foreclose their property. If monthly or bi-weekly home loan payments are not received as agreed, the bank will eventually file for a foreclosure on the home. The single guaranteed way to stop this from happening is to pay the lender as scheduled. It is essentially the same for anyone who has not been able to pay his mortgage, the bank can kick your family out onto the sidewalk and sell it to get back some of their loses. Mortgage loans are just like automobile loans, if you cannot make payments you will lose it.

Bankruptcy is a legal action registered by an individual who is unable to pay her debts. If the late payer is in bankruptcy then all active civil legal proceedings connected to the mortgage will be put on hold. Legally, a home loan bank has to interrupt all collection actions. A mortgage company might be allowed a pass from the mandatory stay, and once it is allowed, may go ahead with the foreclosure action. Bankruptcy will not stop foreclosure and you still must repay your home loan. Going into bankruptcy will not resolve the underlying issue, it simply makes the foreclosure process continue slower.

Even though bankruptcy can not permanently end a foreclosure, it allows an individual enough time to pay back the past due or at a minimum it does make it little more accessible to repay a home loan. Since bankruptcy requires a lender to freeze foreclosure actions, a home owner has a bit of time to raise the money necessary to pay back the creditor. The last resort for any home owner to declare bankruptcy when the home owner is totally incapable of to paying their creditor’s commitments. Under bankruptcy, some debts will probably be discharged but the loan on the property will remain. The home owner has to be willing and able to repay the mortgage inside the given time frame as the debt is guaranteed by tangible assets. Additionally, Chapter thirteen insolvency has a fee schedule that is adjudicated by the court, and allows the debtor make payments on her mortgage to get caught up on their balance.

Financial insolvency isn’t a given. The home owner has to fit particular standards to meet the conditions and if they do, there are legal fees. Possibly, it may cost more in legal fees than it does to simply bootstrap it and pay the late loan payments. If you know somebody that is considering that filing for bankruptcy might be a solution to the situation, an attorney should be able to answer whatever questions. Because insolvency proceedings are extremely detailed, house owner really should not try to do it without guidance from a a bankruptcy lawyer.

This article is just general information. This is not legal advice. We make no representation that this article constitutes legal advice. You might be required to meet with a bankruptcy lawyer in your state with insolvency related questions.
